Selva Escondida is a 270-acre gated property located in the neighborhood of Escaleras with dramatic elevations from cloud forest to a moments' drive to a half-dozen nearby beaches. The property has internal roads, and hiking trails through a private mountainous rainforest. There are streams, green space, waterfalls in the rainy season, fruit trees, hardwoods, local wildlife - all overlooking the Pacific Ocean and by surfing, waterfalls and dining. Currently the property has two private residences - Villa Chill and the original owner's house at the end of the road. The property has a teak plantation and local mill to harvest for sustainable development. There are 34 segregated lots that have legal ASADA water fed by an onsite spring, ICE electric lines and REYCOM fiber optic lines and ICE wireless. Incredible ocean views. With a steep terrain ranging from 170 to 540 meters (558-1,772 ft) above sea level, the property is shaped like a valley bowl leaning against mountains and gently sloping to the sea with flat areas for building sites with views looking both up at mountainous jungle and over the Pacific Ocean towards the iconic Whale's Tail / Cola de Ballena, Cocos Island National Park and south to the Osa Peninsula. The steep local terrain and dense rainforest allows for access into and out of the community to be controlled through electronic gates and onsite guards. Furthermore, a network of video feeds and other sensors leverage technology to ensure families and friends have no worries apart from which fresh fruit to sample, which beach to surf and what to prepare for sunset. The property includes a private mountainous rainforest with virgin primary rainforest and a trail system and mirador. The area averages a very high annual rainfall of 4,000-5,000 mm (157-197 inches). During the rainy season, the property has more waterfalls and streams.
