Yes! You need to rent an all wheel drive (4 x 4) car to access our property and most surrounding areas. We recommend renting a GPS instead of using the navigation system on a US phone, unless you have a great international coverage with your phone carrier. Most car rental companies offer similar deals.
San Jose airport is the closet international airport. From there, rent a car at the airport and drive 2.5 to 3 hours to our property. Alternatively, you can take an internal flight (the building next door to the international airport) with Sansa Air to Quepos and have the car rental company meet you there. From Quepos, it’s a 45 minutes drive to our property. Tickets are quite reasonable if you book in advance.
At restaurants tipping is not necessary, although many tourists still tip. We normally tip when we take surf lessons, horseback riding and other activities. If you take a hike with our property manager, tipping would be appreciated. Additionally some guests tip cleaning ladies.
Yes! The laundry room light switch is on the very back wall of the room. The kitchen has under counter lighting and the switch is near the sink under the cabinet. The swimming pool light is on one of the pole on the patio, behind where the TV is located.
There are few mosquitos on our property. During the day, we like to open all the screen doors but close them at sunset. We always bring insect repellent when we go out to the beach or to restaurants, especially at sunset.
Get a massage on one of Villa Chill’s balconies overlooking the ocean and mountains, or in El Manu over a mountain stream. The Dominical/Uvita area has excellent masseuses that can come onsite. Additionally Hotel Cuna del Angel and Escaleras Village both have nice spas and are very close to Selva Escondida.
It all depends on if you are planning to take a walk, swim or surf. With little kids, we think it’s best to play on the beach 2 hours before or after high tide. For begginer surf lesson, we normally try to go 3 hours before low tide or 1 hour before high tide. You can check out the tide chart.
Yes, you can, but the preferred currency is the local currency, the Costa Rican Colon. You will find local ATM machines in both Dominical and in Uvita where you can withdraw US dollars or CR colones.
Yes! Do plan on arriving at the international airport 20 minutes earlier. All travelers need to pay for a US$29 departure tax at the far right side of the building before you are able to check-in at your airline counter.
Yes! Our water comes from mountain streams on the property. The main house has an ultra violet water system and a reverse osmosis system, and is safe to drink.
